This blog post is part confessional, part aha moment, part duh for me. Why? Because I finally got back to my tech roots. When I started TSQ Marketing Inc, DBA “The SEO QUEEN” I was really focused on search engine optimization. In fact, I was, and still am, so passionate about search engine optimization that I wrote a book. The book is is titled, “SEO Training 2017: Search Engine Optimization and Marketing for Small Business“. Search Engine Optimization is simply: how you get search engines to notice your website and send you free traffic from your ideal prospect/customer.
In 2017 I was working on a few projects with friend and entrepreneur Kori Raishon, owner and conceptualist of Double EE Productions, LLC. We were talking about our products and service offerings and bouncing ideas off of each other. Then we started asking some interesting questions and finally did some great research. Some questions we asked and researched were:
- How many business owners have websites?
- How many business owners utilize Amazon?
- How many business owners utilize Video Marketing?
We got our answer. We found that only 50% of business owners in America have a website for their company. We also found that Amazon is a major player in online retail, and is growing exponentially each year. The one that shocked us the most, was that only 9% of business owners were using video marketing platforms like YouTube as well. Research also revealed that you can come up in search results 50% more if you create videos and submit them to Google. Wow!
I had been so focused on SEO, that I did not think to really offer website design services. So, after looking at this data I was convinced. I had to get back to my “tech roots”…duh! So, I sprang into action. The SEO Queen had to offer business owners website design services. I dusted off my web applications development skillset that I used at Raytheon (my first job after graduating from MIT), and started talking about website design more with my clients. The results were very positive.
One of the first websites I and my team built from the ground up was deltaalloys.com. This client had their website hacked and over 200,000 pages of hacked content was indexed by the hackers within Google’s index. Some SEO professionals would have chosen to burn the domain, but we changed the hosting, deindexed that rogue content, and now the website is being noticed by Google and generating leads. This website case is a very interesting one delving deeper, not only did my team and I build this website from the ground up, but we had to do it by finding cached versions of the site online, and rebuilding it from the internet’s memory. Here is a screenshot of the website today.
This website is a lead generating website for the insurance company, Quesurance. I absolutely loved the logo, and the content that I had to work with, and I am especially proud of the unique design of the header on the home page. This allows visitors to select the type of insurance that they want additional information for with a click of a button, and when you hover over it, it is Quesurance Pink. I love the color pink.
Organic Soap by Wes is a fabulous eCommerce website where you can purchase organic soaps and soon other items as well such as: hand lotion, liquid soap, hair oil, and more. The bars are completely organic, with no animal by products or preservatives. I have seen the soap soothe eczema and moisturize dry skin. I built this website on the Shopify platform, and I think it is pretty good. Check it out and let me know what you think.
So, getting back to the initial question of this blog post: does google know that you exist? Once you have built your website, you can have The Seo Queen build you a website, or if you already have one live the next steps are really helpful. Well you can ask Google and find out. You can do this by using a Google operator called ‘site:’. This will give you how many pages are in Google’s index from your website. So as you can see here below there are exactly 68 pages that are indexing from theseoqueen.net
- Know what keywords are giving you the best search volume for your niche, and use them in your website copy.
- Make sure that you have your meta tags completed that include the appropriate keywords for your entire website: Meta Title, Meta Description, Meta Keyword. Completing this is critical so that when you do submit your website to Google, you give Google your interpretation of your data so you get indexed where you intend to be.
- Verify that you have submitted your website sitemap to Google via Google Webmaster tools.
- Submit your business to Google My business
- Make sure you have all of your company’s social media claimed. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc, all give you great backlinks and google page 1 visibility for your brand when you optimize your business page’s profile.
